I used 99% Lawn Fawn here. I'm such a fan of their products. I think their stamps are the cutest and their Bright Side paper collection has been one of my favorites.

For this project I embossed the bike from Cruising Through Life and used Claire's ABCs to form my sentiment. The black and white polka dot is Smash washi tape.

ScrapFest 2012 - Day 3

The last day of ScrapFest didn't start until 11 a.m. so, thankfully, I was able to sleep in! I had two classes this day, one I REALLY enjoyed and one I was so disappointed in. Let's start with the downer class.

I signed up for the Copic class thinking it was tips and techniques for coloring with them. Instead the instructor handed us a selection of markers and said, "color". I left that class a very unhappy camper.

In the class we colored one image and one piece of acrylic. As you can see by my image I really didn't know what I was doing!

The second class I took was by Tattered Angels. We made a canvas mini album using glimmer glam, glimmer glaze and glimmer mist. It was so much fun.

ScrapFest 2012 - Day 2

Day two started out bright and early. I needed to be at MOA by 9 a.m. for my Tim Holtz class. I wasn't a huge fan of the project but I wanted to learn the techniques. And, MAN, I learned so much!!! This is the project we made:

We used, and were given, this awesome assortment of products! It consisted of three markers, a bottle of mixed media glue, two bottles of stain, some paint, a glue stick and a distress ink pad. We also received a Ranger apron, an ideology lanyard and a Tim Holtz messenger bag.

I made a number of make-and-takes this day so I'll just list the company and a photo of the project. Here we go!

After all these make-and-takes it was time to shop again! I didn't see as much today in the Outpost, but they did have their patterned paper/cardstock grab bags. You got 15 sheets for $3.99. I picked up four sets and was pretty happy with what I got.

They also had a different scrap pack available today so I picked that up too for $0.49. This one had a transparency, sheet of patterned paper and white cardstock plus all the scraps (some of them were embossed).

After digging through some bins I came across these Snag 'em Stamps. The bat was $1.99 and the double set was $0.99 (not sure I understand their pricing strategy but whatever). I also picked up the $0.99 black glaze pen.

On Thursday I'll be sharing the third and final day of ScrapFest 2012 with you. I took a Tattered Angels and Copic class that day.

ScrapFest 2012 - Day 1

Sorry, I'm getting this up so late. My camera decided it no longer wanted to put pictures on my computer.

Friday was the first day of ScrapFest 2012 and I had plans to get up, drop my daughter off at preschool and head to the Mall of America (MOA). Unfortunately I woke up, felt sick and slept until I needed to leave for my first class.

The class I took on this day was put on by Canvas Corp. We used one of their 7gypsies trays along with paper and embellishments by Canvas Home Basics to make a Christmas Countdown Tray. This was a great class! It was so well organized and taught.

Each of these little flaps opens up so you can put an activity or treat inside as you count down the days to Christmas.

I only ended up doing one make-and-take that day. I hopped in the line for ek success not realizing just how slow moving it was. When I did, finally, get to make the project we used a pretty cool tool, the Inkadinkadoo Stamping Gear (check it out here).

We also got this drawstring backpack after making the project.

After doing the make-and-take it was getting close to the end of the day so I hit the ScrapFest Outpost (a ScrapFest only shopping area) and scored a few awesome products. First up these $0.49 scrap packs.

What's in them you ask? Well, each of them had the same three sheets of Making Memories Passport line, one full sheet of brown cardstock, one large scrap of red and two medium scraps of light blue. Each pack then had a different assortment of other, smaller scraps.

Next I got this My Mind's Eye Blackbird collections kit for $4.99. I think this paper is super cute.

Finally this 12 x 12 screen/template for a mere $1.99. I considered it a successful shopping day!

Red Carpet Studio - Sketch Challenge and thinking outside the box

For our second layout challenge we have a sketch for you!

Here is what I created

from this sketch.

Now I know what you may be thinking, "How on Earth did she get that layout from that sketch?!?". So I'm going to show you how my mind works (scary!) when it comes to sketches that may not inspire me right off the bat.

First I take the sketch and mentally number (or letter) the main elements. Like this

Then I take those elements and rearrange (slightly) and reimagine them. This is how the letters translate to my layout

Allow me to explain
A = the tag is pretty close to the peaking square in the sketch
B = I kept this a picture but changed the size
C = is still a boarder but there are more of them and lower
D = the star (embellishment) became long
E = I find large elements, like this circle, difficult to work with. So I shrunk it way down and made it a rectangle
F = I omitted
G = this photo became larger and higher
H & I = are still grouped embellishments
J = like A, I made the peaking square and larger, more visible element
I added the black journalling block because it gives me a vertical element and my pictures have a story behind them that I want to share.

Fall In Love With Autumn Wreath Blog Hop

I made a fun and SUPER simple Halloween wreath to share with all of you today.

I purchased the feather wreath base from Michael's along with a bag of Styrofoam balls. I cut one of the balls in half and painted them with Martha Stewart glitter paint (limeade). The paint wasn't staying on the surface very well so I ended up sponging it on more than painting. This technique gave me the uneven/textured look you see here. The pupils are painted with Folk Art metallic black.
